1. Pixel Planet

Opening: Early 2026
The buzz is real! Pixel Planet is set to bring a futuristic twist to Hanmer Springs when it opens at The Village Shopping Centre in early 2026. With glowing pixel floors, multiplayer zones, and VR simulators, it’s shaping up to be a fun indoor go-to for families, teens, and groups. Perfect for rainy days or evening entertainment, and something genuinely new for the village.

2. Violet Vortex & Waiau Winder Hydroslides

These epic hydroslides at Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa have been open for a few years now, but they’re still drawing big excitement! With LED lighting, themed tunnels, and twisting high-speed drops... perfect for anyone chasing a thrill in 2026. Why go all the way to Oz for water-parks, when we have one in Hanmer! 

3. Soldiers’ Block & Interactive Museum Development

Reopened: Anzac Day 2025
The iconic Soldiers’ Block reopened in April 2025 after a major restoration, marking a new chapter for one of Hanmer’s most historic sites. The building now serves as a community hub, with an interactive museum experience being developed in partnership with Wētā Workshop. Visitors can expect staged additions, immersive storytelling, and continually evolving exhibits, making it a meaningful stop in for new and even returning visitors.

4. New Whare at Soldiers’ Block

Opened: 2025
Alongside the restoration, a beautiful whare (meeting house) opened in early 2025, recognising the Māori connection to the area. It offers a peaceful cultural space and adds depth to the historic precinct.

5. Dog Stream Reserve Disc Golf Course

Opened: 2025
Hanmer’s nine-hole disc golf course arrived in 2025 and quickly became a favourite for families, couples, and groups. Affordable, social, and set amongst the trees at Dog Stream Reserve, it’s an easy pick for a relaxed afternoon.

6. Laser Clay Shooting by the Waiau

Launched: Recently new and growing in popularity!
A quirky alternative to the standard adventure circuit, Laser Clay Shooting lets players take aim using decommissioned shotguns fitted with laser tech - no recoil, no noise, just competitive fun. It’s been gaining momentum with groups and team outings, and is a great option for something different.

7. Proposed Conical Hill Fly-Ride

Still in the approval stage, the proposed gravity-powered fly-ride down Conical Hill could become one of Hanmer’s biggest adventure attractions! No opening date yet - but if it goes ahead, think sweeping alpine views and high-speed fun. Definitely one to keep on the radar.
